Frequently Asked Questions
About Golden Era
What is Golden Era?
Golden Era is a private, personalized service that thoughtfully matches older adults with exceptional Connection Partners for a consistent, trusted presence in their lives.
Time together is built around the individual—their personality, interests, routines and what they genuinely enjoy. There is no prescribed agenda. The goal is a relationship that develops naturally over time and adds connection, interest and something meaningful to look forward to each week.
Is Golden Era home care or a traditional companion service?
No. Golden Era is a non-clinical relationship and engagement service.
We do not provide medical care, personal care or household caregiving. Our focus is on the person—not simply a list of tasks that need to be completed—and on creating meaningful connection, engagement and experiences.
Who is Golden Era for?
Golden Era is designed for older adults who are largely independent and would benefit from more meaningful connection and engagement in their week.
Some clients may be navigating retirement, the loss of a spouse, a recent move or a changing social world. Others simply want more opportunities for conversation, shared interests, outings, new experiences and time with someone they genuinely enjoy.
Can I arrange Golden Era for my parent or another loved one?
Absolutely. Many families come to Golden Era because they want a consistent, trusted person spending meaningful time with a parent or loved one.
We involve family members appropriately while always respecting the client's independence, preferences and privacy.
Connection Partners & Matching
Who are Golden Era Connection Partners?
Connection Partners are carefully selected people who bring warmth, curiosity, reliability, emotional intelligence and interesting life experience to the relationship.
We look beyond a résumé. We are interested in who someone is, how they connect with others and whether they are the kind of person our clients would genuinely look forward to seeing each week.
How are Connection Partners selected?
Our selection process includes an application, interviews, reference checks and background screening. Connection Partners who drive clients must also meet Golden Era's driving and insurance requirements.
Just as importantly, we assess qualities that cannot be captured by a background check—judgment, warmth, communication style, reliability, curiosity and the ability to form a genuine connection with another person.
How do you decide who to match with me?
We don't simply assign whoever is available.
Our Connection Matching process considers personality, interests, communication style, lifestyle, preferences, values and the kinds of experiences someone enjoys.
We're looking for meaningful overlap, complementary differences and genuine chemistry.
Not identical. Compatible.
Will I have the same Connection Partner every week?
Yes. Consistency is central to Golden Era.
Our goal is for you to spend time with the same Connection Partner each week so familiarity, trust and a real relationship can develop over time.
Golden Era isn't designed around a rotating roster of people.
What if the match doesn't feel right?
Chemistry matters.
If either the client or Connection Partner feels the match isn't quite right, we want to know. We will talk with you about what isn't working, learn from it and thoughtfully explore another match.
The goal isn't simply to provide someone. It's to find the right person.
The Golden Era Experience
What do clients and Connection Partners actually do together?
There is no set agenda. Time together is shaped around the client's personality, interests, energy and preferences—and it can evolve as the relationship does.
One week might be quiet and familiar; another might involve trying something completely new.
Clients and Connection Partners might:
- Have lunch or coffee
- Talk at home over tea
- Cook or try a new recipe together
- Shop for ingredients and prepare a meal
- Visit a museum or gallery
- Go to a farmers market
- Garden or visit a garden center
- Take a walk or spend time outdoors
- Play Scrabble, Canasta, cards or another favorite game
- Go grocery or specialty-food shopping
- Browse a bookstore
- Attend a lecture, concert or cultural event
- Take a class together
- Explore a neighborhood or nearby town
- Revisit an old hobby or interest
- Start a new creative project
- Attend a book club
- Attend a community, civic or political organization or event
- Explore volunteer opportunities
- Work on an online dating profile
- Organize photographs or work on a personal project
- Attend a local festival or seasonal event
- Visit a favorite place from the past
- Discover a new restaurant
- Plan a future outing or experience
- Or simply have a really good conversation
The point isn't to fill time with activities. It's to spend time in ways that feel interesting, enjoyable and personal.
Your time. Your interests. Your choice.
Does everything have to be an outing?
Not at all.
Some of the most meaningful time can happen at home—talking, cooking, playing cards, listening to music, gardening, looking through photographs, working on a project or simply enjoying each other's company.
Golden Era is about the quality of the time together, not how busy the calendar is.
Can my Connection Partner drive me?
When a match includes local transportation, we will pair the client with a Connection Partner who meets Golden Era's driving requirements.
Clients must be able to safely enter and exit a standard passenger vehicle independently.
Transportation is intended to support the experiences clients and Connection Partners enjoy together; Golden Era is not a transportation or car service.
The Experience Fund
What is the Golden Era Experience Fund?
We want time with a Connection Partner to feel natural—not like a series of financial transactions.
For that reason, clients who anticipate outings, activities or shared purchases maintain a pre-funded Golden Era Experience Fund.
Despite its name, the Experience Fund isn't limited to special outings. It can be used for the everyday things that become part of spending time together, including:
- Lunch or coffee
- Museum or event tickets
- Parking and tolls
- Admission fees
- Ingredients for a recipe you decide to make together
- Art, gardening or project supplies
- Materials for a class or activity
- Other agreed-upon expenses connected to your Golden Era time
The idea is simple: keep the transactions in the background so the relationship can stay in the foreground.
How does the Experience Fund work?
At enrollment, an initial Experience Fund balance is established and Golden Era securely keeps a credit card on file.
Connection Partners have access to a Golden Era business payment card for approved client-related expenses. This means clients don't need to continually exchange cash, reimburse their Connection Partner or stop to manage small transactions while they're together.
Golden Era tracks all Experience Fund purchases. When the fund reaches an agreed-upon minimum balance, it is automatically replenished using the client's card on file.
The initial funding amount, replenishment threshold and other details are established at enrollment and included in the Client Service Agreement.
Will I know how the Experience Fund is being spent?
Absolutely.
Golden Era keeps a record of Experience Fund transactions, and clients or their designated family contact receive an itemized expense summary every three months.
This allows the financial side of the relationship to remain effortless during visits while still being transparent and accountable behind the scenes.
Who pays for the Connection Partner's expenses during an activity?
When an activity requires the Connection Partner to incur a cost in order to participate—such as a meal, museum admission, event ticket, parking or toll—the client is responsible for that expense.
These expenses can generally be handled through the Experience Fund so they do not interrupt the time together.
Safety, Health & Boundaries
Does Golden Era provide medical or personal care?
No. Golden Era is a non-medical, non-clinical service.
Connection Partners do not administer medication, provide personal hygiene or toileting assistance, perform medical tasks or replace a home health aide, nurse or other healthcare professional.
Is Golden Era appropriate for someone with dementia or significant care needs?
Golden Era is designed for older adults who can participate safely and independently in a relationship-based engagement service.
It is not a substitute for dementia care, home health care or hands-on personal assistance. During our initial conversation and intake process, we'll learn more about the prospective client and determine whether Golden Era is an appropriate fit.
Scheduling & Continuity
How often will my Connection Partner visit?
Golden Era is built around consistent weekly time together.
Our standard membership includes one visit each week, generally around two hours, with the same Connection Partner whenever possible.
What if I want to spend additional time with my Connection Partner?
Additional time can be arranged based on Connection Partner availability.
Extra time beyond the regular weekly schedule is billed separately at $80 per hour, in 30-minute increments. This allows clients to occasionally plan a longer outing, event or experience when they'd like to.
What happens if I have to miss a week?
We know that schedules change.
For planned schedule changes, we ask clients to provide at least two weeks' notice whenever possible so that we have the best opportunity to reschedule the time.
Clients may roll over up to two unused hours per month to use at another mutually convenient time.
We understand that illness and unexpected circumstances happen and will always work with clients as reasonably as possible when they do.
Additional scheduling and cancellation details are included in the Client Service Agreement.
What happens if my Connection Partner is unavailable?
Consistency matters to us, so our first priority is to reschedule the time with your regular Connection Partner whenever possible.
For planned absences, we ask Connection Partners to provide Golden Era with advance notice so that we can make arrangements with the client.
If a visit cannot be rescheduled, the unused time can be carried forward to another mutually convenient time.
If a longer absence makes a temporary substitute appropriate, Golden Era can discuss that option with the client. We would never simply send an unfamiliar Connection Partner without discussing it with you first.
Family Communication
Will my family know how things are going?
Families may choose to add Golden Era Monthly Updates for a one-time annual fee of $200.
Each month, the client's designated family contact receives a thoughtful update that may include:
- Highlights from the month
- New things tried, learned or discovered
- Interests or topics that have emerged
- Overall mood and engagement
- Challenges or concerns worth noting
- Additional observations from the Connection Partner
The goal is to give families a meaningful window into how things are going without turning the relationship into a monitoring service.
We always balance family communication with the client's dignity, independence and privacy.
Getting Started
How do we get started?
It begins with a conversation.
We'll first learn a little about you or your loved one and answer any questions about Golden Era.
If the service appears to be a good fit, we move into our more detailed intake and Connection Matching process.
Is there a one-time new client fee?
Yes. Golden Era charges a one-time New Client & Matching Fee of $199 when a client enrolls.
This covers the work that happens before the weekly relationship begins, including our detailed intake and assessment, creation of the client's personalized profile, family consultation when appropriate, our Connection Matching process, identification and review of potential Connection Partners, coordination of the introduction and the administrative setup required to begin the relationship thoughtfully.
We invest considerable time upfront because we believe the quality of the match matters.
Can I meet my Connection Partner before we begin?
Yes.
Once we identify a potential Connection Partner, we arrange an introduction so both the client and Connection Partner have an opportunity to meet and get a sense of the fit.
A relationship this personal shouldn't begin with a stranger simply arriving at the door.
Where is Golden Era available?
Golden Era is currently focused on Westchester County, New York; Greenwich and surrounding Fairfield County communities in Connecticut; and select nearby communities, with availability dependent on location and the right Connection Partner match.
Membership & Pricing
How much does Golden Era cost?
Golden Era membership is $800 per month and includes consistent weekly time with a thoughtfully matched Connection Partner.
Standard visits are generally around two hours.
Activity-related expenses and additional time are separate.
Is there a long-term commitment?
Golden Era is intentionally built around consistency. Relationships deepen over time, which is why our membership is designed as a 12-month membership.
However, we also understand that you need to experience the relationship before knowing whether Golden Era feels right.
The first 30 days serve as an introductory period. During that first month, you can experience Golden Era and determine whether you would like to continue. If you decide during the introductory period that Golden Era isn't right for you, you may choose not to continue for the remainder of the year.
After the introductory period, the membership continues for the remainder of the 12-month term.
At the end of the year, clients may choose to renew their Golden Era membership.
Why an annual membership?
Golden Era isn't designed as an occasional, on-demand service.
The value comes from consistency—the same person showing up, learning who you are, remembering the conversation from last week and developing a relationship that becomes richer and more natural over time.
The annual membership reflects that commitment to continuity, while the introductory month gives clients an opportunity to make sure the experience feels right before continuing.
Are activities and outings included in the $800 monthly membership?
No.
The monthly membership covers the Golden Era service and your Connection Partner's scheduled time.
Meals, tickets, admissions, parking, tolls, supplies and other activity-related purchases are separate and can generally be handled through the client's Experience Fund.
How does payment work?
Golden Era keeps a credit card securely on file.
Membership fees are automatically charged monthly. The New Client & Matching Fee is charged at enrollment, and optional annual services such as Golden Era Monthly Updates are charged separately.
For clients using an Experience Fund, the card on file is also used to replenish the agreed-upon fund balance as needed.
